The short-term rental industry has rapidly responded to one of the most pressing needs amidst the Covid-19 pandemic: keeping guests and our communities safe. Many of the leading STR platforms and organizations have released industry-wide cleaning protocols guided by medical professionals, infectious disease specialists, and other experts.

Still, there is a widespread misconception that STRs are unsafe or not cleaned as well as hotels or other accommodation types. So, we dove into the recommendations from Airbnb, Vrbo and VRMA and compared them to those from the AHLA the U.S. Travel Association.

What we found:

STR guidelines are the most robust for any accommodation type across the entire travel industry. 

As our cities strategically reopen, and as STR ordinance conversations begin to take new forms post-pandemic, our elected officials should have all the facts to be able to make informed decisions.
