Rent Responsibly is an education and community-building platform for short-term rental operators as well as an association management service provider to local and state short-term rental associations around the country.
The Executive Director will support our client Arizonans for Responsible Tourism to lead its operations, advocacy initiatives, revenue growth, and member engagement. This part-time role is ideal for a strategic and mission-driven leader who can balance high-level vision with hands-on execution. You will oversee the association’s financial sustainability, stakeholder relations, communications, and advocacy efforts.
About Arizonans for Responsible Tourism
Arizonans for Responsible Tourism (AZRT) is a statewide association dedicated to advocating for fair and sustainable short-term rental policies, supporting responsible hosting, and educating stakeholders about the benefits of the short-term rental industry. AZRT collaborates with policymakers, local businesses, and STR operators to be the leading voice for fair regulation and responsible tourism across Arizona.
This role starts part-time with the potential to expand based on the organization’s growth.
The Executive Director will report to Rent Responsibly’s Director of Alliance Operations and the board of AZRT. This position is work from home and will average 30 hours per month. Applicants must be based in Arizona, and the position will start in May 2025.
Key Responsibilities:
- Revenue Growth: Includes membership sales, sponsor sales, donor recruitment, and development and management of additional revenue opportunities.
- Leadership meeting management: Includes agenda preparation, meeting facilitation, action item tracking and follow-up, execution of directives from the meetings, meeting reminders, and meeting scheduling.
- Inbox management: Includes email inbox, social media direct message inboxes, and the member portal direct message inbox.
- Social Media: Includes posting content and engaging with followers, primarily by responding to comments or questions.
- Email Communications: Includes emails to members and subscribers, including but not limited to:
- Monthly newsletter
- Advocacy alerts and regulatory updates
- Event registration promotion
- News
- Sales promotions
- Content and Resource Posting: Includes publishing files and articles on the public-facing website and inside the member portal, as well as posting discussion forums in the member portal.
- Local news monitoring and media relations: Includes tracking important news developments, managing inbound and outbound connections with reporters, conducting media interviews, and preparing board members for media opportunities.
- Legislation and Issue Tracking: Includes monitoring of the regulatory dashboard and alerts (provided by Rent Responsibly), monitoring other regulatory sources, and keeping a pulse on local/state conversations.
- Corporate Governance, including:
- Upholding bylaws
- Financial clerical needs (with the Treasurer)**
- Annual reports
- Tax document support
- Orders and payments
- Reimbursements
- Basic budgeting and transaction tracking
- Sponsor payment collection
- Board Guidance (where appropriate): Includes strategic input, operational efficiency and effectiveness, and idea generation.
- Misc. Responsibilities:
- In-person event management
- Program and campaign development, such as surveys or election engagements
- Liaise with chapters (if applicable in the future)
- Liaise with Rent Responsibly’s alliance support team
- Board member recruitment, application management, and onboarding
Rent Responsibly will provide training and support for all systems and technology deployed with AZRT.
** While the Executive Director may support the AZRT board and treasurer with clerical tasks, the AZRT board is responsible for all compliance with financial, tax, and other applicable laws and 501(c)(6) requirements.

- You’re comfortable working with startups and small, fast-moving teams. You’re not shy about stepping into an evolving role and are excited about building the role as we go.
- You love marking things off your to-do list. Everything you check off meets your high standards of quality, but you don’t let perfection get in the way of a deadline.
- You are a solid, reliable, self-managed doer. People have confidence that if you are accountable for something, you will get it done without being reminded, and nothing will fall through the cracks.
- Your communication is impeccable. People rarely misunderstand what you’re telling or asking of them, and you interact fluently and patiently with others with different communication styles than you.
- You sometimes enjoy playing a coach-like role and spotting opportunities to offer advice or guidance to clients. Similarly, you’re tech-savvy but comfortable working and supporting those who are not.
- You don’t shy away from making processes more efficient or creating new processes from scratch when needed.
- You don’t mind recurring tasks and projects and relish the opportunity to improve them with each iteration.
- You are adept at managing your time. You love task batching, creating and using templates, and optimizing your workday, but you can also juggle projects and flexibly shuffle priorities.
- You’re OK with and even excited to step outside your comfort zone.
Required Experience and Skills:
- Minimum 2 years of experience as an executive director or closely related experience in a related field
- The ability and enthusiasm to build new policymaker relationships at the state and local levels
- Experience with email marketing platforms and social media management
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Confidence in offering ideas and recommendations to clients and in team discussions
- Proficiency in Google Workspace
Bonus Skills/Experience:
- Fluency in Spanish
- A well-connected network of policymakers in Arizona at the state level
- Experience in the short-term rental industry and/or short-term rental regulations
- Experience with non-code website management and content updates
- Familiarity with Hivebrite or similar member management software
- Experience using Slack Workspace
- Proficiency in Canva or similar graphic design tools
