Now, onto the 2024 State of the STR Industry Study.

This year, we’re bringing back the study we did in 2022, first-of-its-kind research that asked novel questions about STRs to two distinct but interdependent audiences (government staff and STR operators) to assess economic impact, operator profiles and technology use, community impact, and opportunities for government-industry collaboration. Read the 2022 report here.

For the 2024 study, as partners, you get automatic inclusion and sponsor benefits – see details on slide 10 here. The research itself will be updated to include new questions for operators, and all partners are invited to submit requested questions to include in the survey! While we can’t guarantee every question can be included or included as written, we’ll do our best to accommodate requests.

🚩 Action Item: If you’d like to submit a question to ask STR operators, please send them to me no later than Wednesday, 2/28. Heads up: this deadline is not flexible as we must submit questions to our research partners at the College of Charleston to build the survey on schedule, so questions submitted after 2/28 will not be accepted.

Tips for a successful survey question:

  • Format: Questions with pre-defined answer options, such as multiple choice or yes/no
  • Topic: Applicable to operators of all kinds and not exclusive to users of your product

Bad Example:

What do you think about Company ABC’s product X? [Text box]

Good Example:

Which types of products are you considering purchasing in 2024 that you do not already use?

  • Property management software
  • Operations software
  • Direct booking website
  • Smart home technology
  • Guest guidebook
  • Noise monitoring
  • Guest vetting / risk management technology
  • Security cameras
  • Other

If you have any questions, please email or Slack me (Alexa).

Thank you!
