Autumn is the eternal corrective. It is ripeness and color and a time of completion, but it is also breadth and depth and distance. What man can stand with Autumn on a hilltop and fail to see the span of his world and the substance of the rolling hills that reach to the far horizon?

Back on June 27 – 300 days from Earth Day 2024 – Rent Responsibly kicked off a team challenge to adopt more sustainable habits by taking three new steps each month for 300 days. October 5 marked our first 100 days in, the perfect time to check in as fall approaches all around.

What we’ve achieved so far:

That’s like saving the carbon of nine road trips from London to Paris and back, the water of more than nine tanker trucks, and three years’ worth of the average American’s consumption of plastic bags.  

We are so proud of these results! But we’re nowhere near done. We’ve still got 195 days left in our challenge and a lifetime to go in being better stewards of our planet.  

As we enjoy this beautiful season, we hope you’ll see the span of this world and the substance of its rolling hills and join us in taking steps to protect it.  Here’s what our team has found most inspiring and impactful so far that you may be able to try at home or in your STR properties: 

🌱 Trash pickups on walks, trails, beaches – anywhere!
🌱 Properly recycling everything from soda cans to textiles to construction waste
🌱 Swapping to organic, nontoxic, and even homemade cleaning and beauty products
🌱 Eliminating food waste
🌱 Eating organically and in season
🌱 Swapping to reusable containers and sustainably packaged materials
🌱 Cutting power use by shutting things off when not in use and automating HVAC settings 

We’ve also cut down our company travel, switched to eco vehicles where available when we rideshare, and more than 70 other steps combined.  

Who says we have to wait until January to start fresh and form better habits?
